  • What Can You Expect From A Dental Implant Procedure?

A dental implant procedure replaces a natural tooth with an artificial one made from ceramic or titanium. These are usually first placed as roots which go deep in the gums and bond with the jawbone. Once that is completed, the dentist places the artificial teeth which are also known as crowns. Dental implants are a great option if you have a few of your permanent teeth missing as they are manufactured based on your teeth. This ensures that they look and feel exactly the same.

What Does the Dental Implant Procedure Involve?

A dental implant procedure is usually conducted as an outpatient surgery. For this, titanium dental implants fuse with your jawbone to imitate the root of a real tooth. This root is then used to secure the actual artificial teeth on top so that they stay in place and get strong.

The procedure usually takes several different appointments and can last for up to several months. Most of the good quality titanium implants in India can create the bond within a few months alone.

Limitations

While implants are great for people with missing teeth, not everyone is compatible with them. Patients of chronic illnesses such as diabetes and leukemia are not compatible with dental implants as these conditions can interfere with the osseointegration. Smoking is another factor that can cause this. It is always advisable to first discuss your medical history with your dentist before going for the procedure.

What to Expect

While the dental implant procedure happens in multiple sessions, it is a standard procedure. During the first few sessions, you will be called for a thorough examination of your mouth to generate 3D models and scans of your teeth. These will be sent to the manufacturers of titanium implants in India and then will be used to make implants.

Next comes the surgery where your mouth will be numbed, or you can choose to be sedated. Then an incision will be made in your gums to place the tooth implant into the jawbone at the location of the missing tooth. After this, the gums are closed over the implant.

Recovery can take a few months which will allow osseointegration to occur and then the doctor can call you to place the abutment over the implant root. Once your gums have healed from this as well, then your implants can be finished with the crown being attached to the abutment.
